Writing Update for January 2023

By Odyssa

February 3, 2023

The purpose of this writing update is to make myself aware of what's going on in my writing life. Sometimes, I can't keep track! Trello, Evernote, and Google Docs are my tools.

I wouldn't say I'm busy. I actually have a lot of free time! But there are weeks when my body can't catch up with everything I plan on doing.  On some afternoons, all I want to do is lie down with a book and fall asleep while going over a page.

Here's the latest.

My poem, "The Poetess" will be part of The Fairy Tale Magazine's March-June issue. Here's the list of writers who will be there too. It's about a girl who wandered away from home to pursue her dreams.

I had my hair done. Can you tell?

Since late 2022, I've been working closely with 8Letters Books, an online bookstore for independent authors in the Philippines. We have a few activities lined up which will all be done online. Later, my books will be part of their catalog.

Lastly, I now have a Facebook page for my written work. This wasn't my idea but it was proposed and I okay-ed it! It makes me a little uncomfortable to have this page but who cares really?

Back to work

After what seems to be the longest holiday ever - Tet Holiday - I am finally back to seeing my students in the classroom.

A rainy day in Hoi An 2 weeks ago. Hanoi has the same weather today.

Getting back to work after traveling for a few weeks is unsettling. I need to get used to waking up early and sleeping late, writing in between classes and jobs. Noisy classrooms, crowded hallways, and singing pigeons...welcome back.

I'm in that state between fast-paced and slow, productive and lazy, creative and unimaginative, lively and dreaming in bed.
