I hated writing assignments.

In school, we had to write a reflection paper about Sunday's church service. I struggled to get words out and pretended like I listened to the pastor.

My reflection papers were pretentious. The reason...it wasn't ME. It was something I NEEDED to do so I can pass a subject.

Now, writing brings so much joy to me that whether I write an article for Medium, a caption for an Instagram post or a side project, I try to be as genuine as I can be. No teachers to please, and it's no longer graded!

When I write, I want to paint a picture of what I see. What my heart wants to say is on GirlTellMe, a website for writers. Read the full article here:

An Open Letter To The Loved One That's Far Away

'Though you're far, you give me no reason to doubt your intentions, words, and actions. You trust me with your life story, your struggles, your political opinion, and the secrets you've kept for so long. With you, I feel safe.'

Big thanks to Nikki for accepting this somewhat somber article. I lost all hope a few weeks after submitting my pitch and then there it was!

Follow them on Instagram. Creator, Nikki Frias, is hilarious.

Here's to writing from our hearts!
