I'm going back to where I completed my grade school and high school - University of Perpetual Help System Dalta. When I was a student, the school had a different name. It goes to show how much the school has changed since I graduated.
This time as a resource speaker for their Book Week Celebration. I will do a talk about 'The Importance of Reading'.
Preparations
1. Canva is a great tool for making presentations. The templates, colors, and fonts are way more fun to look at. It's especially important since the audience will be Grades 4, 5, 6 students and their parents, as well as teachers and administrators.
Canva is my go to site for anything related to digital design. It's where I make logos, banners, and posters.
2. Netflix is helping me out with Anne with an 'E'. It's one of the books I'm showing in my slides and I have to know what it's about before I discuss it with the children.
3. I asked around about fictional characters that children love today...and they are so different from what I knew when I was 11 years old. However, I found out that Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Babysitters Club, Percy Jackson, Diary of a Wimpy Kid - stories I'm familiar with - are still being read.
4. Preparing this presentation made me realize how little I know of Filipino children's literature. 🙁
Three hopes for Monday
Nothing goes wrong with the internet, mic, and camera.
The students don't get bored and participate.
The students and parents take action on how to make reading a priority at home.
Online learning
The way students learn went through a big shift since the pandemic began. Now, recitations, quizzes, and school events are being held online. But based on the rules implemented now, in a few more months, Filipino students will be back to studying in classrooms.
